UIDAI on Thursday said it follows a “stringent enrolment and updation Procedure” for issuance of All Aadhaar cards, Also has blacklisted over 50,000 operators for a Variety of Offenses, amid reports of a breach in Its Own enrolment software.
The exceptional Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) stated its enrolment software includes necessary safeguards and checks to protect against any manipulation, even since it discredited the claims in the report as “baseless and false”.
The announcement comes after reports of alleged tampering of this Aadhaar enrolment software and being sold in the black market, which allegedly bypasses operators’ biometric authentication and eases issuance of Aadhaar cards without any documents.
Emphasising its “zero tolerance policy” when it comes to ensuring safety and security of its own processes, UIDAI said that any operator found to be violating its stipulated processes or those indulging in any fraudulent or corrupt practices, are blocked, blacklisted and also face stiff financial penalty of around Rs. 1 lakh each instance.
“Additionally, all such enrolment efforts become rejected and Aadhaar isn’t generated. As on date over 50,000 operators are blacklisted,” that the UIDAI added statement said. The UIDAI stated its system suits all the biometric, that is all 10 fingerprints and irides, of a resident enrolling for Aadhaar together with the biometrics of Aadhaar holders prior to issuing the 12 digit identifier.
“No operator can make or update Aadhaar unless the resident herself or himself gives her or his biometric. Any enrolment or upgrade request is processed only once biometric resident is authenticated,” UIDAI said.
Detailing the stringent procedures followed by it, UIDAI stated prior to processing of their enrolment or updation action, the operator’s biometric and other parameters can also be checked. Just once all tests are found to be prosperous, enrolment or updation request of resident is further processed.
“Some of these checks include biometric test of operator, validity of operator, enrolment machine, enrolment agency and registrar, which are verified at UIDAI’s backend system before further processing is finished.
